General Information:

Tracing Memory is a 2D puzzle platformer game about helping  Evra find her memory and help her buddy, Sara fulfill his destiny.

In the process of journey and adventure, you will need to control and combine the platforms from other spaces to solve puzzles and help Evra get closer to her goal. Meanwhile, you will be constantly trained in jumping skills to get through the difficulties.

Tracing Memory is a Capstone project of USCS game design major. It spent 9 months to develop, and there were 11 people involved. As a capstone project, tracing memory is not only the summary of my college game design learning career, but also my last challenge before graduation. 

In this project, I have participated in several positions. If ranked by workload, I worked as a producer, level designer, sound designer, gameplay designer, and programmer respectively.

Among them, producer and level designer were the most challenging and time-consuming areas. 



As a producer

I assembled and managed the development team, overseed production, and helmed the schedule, ensured the on-time completion of all tasks and deliverables.

I used Excel to better manage the project progress.

In the Excel form, I clearly recorded "Priority", "Task", "Task detail", "Add date", "Due date", and "Status". It helped us all know our development status timely and accurately.  In addition, as the editor of Excel form, I could accurately remember who developed which part, so that when I find problems, I could find the right person to deal with them in time. As a result, we could greatly save the development time.

I also created several PowerPoint to assist my language so that my team members could understand my ideas in more detail.





As a Level Designer

I used Procreate to draw down the levels. I designed four seasons which have 4 different puzzle mechanisms.

I also learned from Fernando Briones to guess and predict the player's behavior and used PowerPoint to record it and show it. After several playtests, I could balance the difficulty of the level by comparing the player's experience and my notes on the PowerPoint.

Install instructions

Make sure to set your screen resolution to 1920x1080 before playing.

Windows:

1.  Download, Unzip, Run "Tracing Memory.exe".

2. If prompted, click on "More Info" and click on "Open Anyways".

Mac:

1.  Download, Unzip, Drag "Tracing Memory"  to  "Application" file, Right-click "Tracing Memory", Click Open, and click again.
